Special Events

Special events are indicated on the Forecast Planner by three vertical dots in the date header. The indicator appears for both volume forecast data and volume actual data. If the special event icon appears on a given day, it indicates that one or more special events occur on that day for a loaded location or locations.

The special events details page helps you to validate data for a forecast. It lists all the special events for the selected category and time period, and the % impact that the events have on volumes.

To display special events details for the selected Forecast Week, select the forecast factor of interest, then click the Special Event icon . The Special Event Details page appears. The % Impact of Event menu provides two options:

  • Forecasted - Represents the predicted effect
  • For each occurrence of an event in the future, forecasting performs an analysis of past occurrences of the event to determine what impact (percent + or -) this event should have on the forecast.
  • Actual - Represents the historical effect
  • For each occurrence of an event in history, an analysis is performed that determines the historical impact (percent + or -) of an event on a similar day with no event.
Note:

% Impact of Event refers to the selected category. For example, if a store has a special event set up for a sale in the shoe department, and the sale will generate 50% more sales in the shoe department.

  • If you select the shoe department as the category, the % Impact number is the impact of the sale on the shoe department (50).
  • If you select the entire store, the % Impact number is the impact of the shoe department sale on the entire store volumes (probably less than 50). If you want to see the impact on the specific department, select the shoe department as the category.
