Work Rule Definitions

Work rule definitions are lower-level building blocks that are used to create work rules assignments in the Work Rule Definition editor. A device work rule enables employees to transfer a work rule at a device.

Device work rule definitions map pay rules to work rules. Therefore, a single device work rule can be used at a device for work rule transfers. The transfers are based on the employee’s pay rule assignment in the host application.

Assign a device work rule to an Application Configuration template and a Start Work Rule Transfer configurable transaction.

For example, a device work rule named “Call back” transfers employees with pay rule A to work rule A, and employees with pay rule B to work rule B. These employees may accrue hours differently for a Call back. This rule enables all employees to use a single device soft key labeled “Call back” to transfer to a work rule—even though each employee is transferred to a different work rule.

If all employees, regardless of their pay rule, accrue hours the same way for a Call back, you can configure the device work rule with a single default work rule.

A device work rule definition includes:

Default work rule

The work rule that the employee is transferred to when none of the pay rules in the device work rule definition match the employee’s pay rule. If the default work rule is not specified, at least one pay-rule-to-work-rule association must be defined

Pay-rule-to-work-rule associations

The associations used to define the work rule that an employee is transferred to. Associations are based on the pay rule assigned to the employee in the timekeeping application. If the device work rule has no pay-rule-to-work-rule associations, all employees are transferred to the default work rule, regardless of their pay rule assignment. More than one association may be assigned to a device work rule definition.
