Smart Views
Smart View transactions use the device browser for online transactions in the same way that a user accesses a Web site.
Unlike other device transactions, Smart View transactions are not collected by the Universal Device Manager. Instead, the server to which the device is connected immediately processes the transaction.
Smart View transactions are displayed in the list of transactions that can be assigned to soft keys in the employee or manager mode. They are also listed in the list of transactions that can be assigned as default transactions
Note: Each Smart View definition contains a single URL. When a Smart View transaction is executed on the device, the host application instance that is specified in the URL determines the language if a locale policy is not selected in the Smart View definition. If you select a locale policy, the Smart View will display in the language defined in the locale policy.
The Smart Views building block displays existing Smart View transactions definitions. The list of transaction definitions includes the URL of the Web server that performs each transaction.
Smart View communication requires a password to be configured on the device in Maintenance Mode, and the same password to be configured in Device Manager in the Communication Settings template or in the Auto Registration profile.
If a password is not configured, or if the passwords are configured do not match, Smart View soft key transactions at the device will fail with an error such as:
- Remote Service Unavailable
- Remote Server is not confirmed
Smart Views validate against the password in the Communication Settings template, if configured. If no password is configured in the Communication Settings template, Smart Views validate against the password in the Auto Registration profile. If no password is configured in either the template or the profile, Smart Views fail.
To configure a password in the Communication Settings template:
- In Device Manager, navigate to Administration > Devices > Configuration > Device.
- Edit or create the Device Profile that will be assigned to the device.
- Edit the Communication Settings template.
- Open the Device Initiated Authentication tab.
- Configure the password:
- Select the Enable password validation check box.
- In the Password text box enter the password that is configured in Maintenance Mode at the device.
- In the Verify Password check box reenter the password.
To configure a password in the Auto Registration profile:
- In Device Manager, navigate to Configuration > Device > Actions
> Auto Registration Configuration. - Configure the password:
- Select the Allow Auto Register check box.
- In the Default Device Password text box enter the password that is configured in Maintenance Mode at the device.
- In the Confirm Password check box reenter the password.
- Click Tap New
-
Note: You cannot delete or edit a predefined Smart View transaction, a transaction that is assigned to a soft key on a device, or one that is defined as a default transaction at badge readers, but you can duplicate it and then modify the duplicate.
- The Smart View Transaction Editor window displays. Required fields are marked by an asterisk (*).
- Enter or modify the Name of the transaction. If you are duplicating the transaction, change the name.
- (Optional) Enter or modify the Description.
- Enter the Smart View Code. The code is a unique name of the transaction (5 characters maximum). Random 5-digit alphanumeric code generated by Universal Device Manager for standard Smart Views.
- Enter the URL of the Web server that is executing the transaction. The format is:
- <protocol>://<primary server>:<primary server port>/<primary server instance id>/URLDispatcherServlet
- Use a format beginning with http:// or https://. The maximum number of combined URL and URL parameters characters is 255.
- Note: If you enter a DNS name as part of the URL (for example, http://mywebserver/transaction.jsp), enable DNS support at the device to which this transaction is assigned.
- (Optional) If other transaction parameters are appended to the URL, enter them in the URL Parameters text box.
- The string must begin and end with an ampersand (&). For example:
&Key1=value1&Key2=value2&... - where Key1, Key2... are the additional fields required by the transaction. The maximum number of URL Parameters characters is 120.
- (Optional) Select a Locale Policy. If you select None, the Smart View appears in the language of the application server. If you select a locale policy, the Smart View appears in that language and locale on the device.
- Specify the Timeout as the number of seconds (0–1800 seconds) that the transaction is to wait after invoking the URL to the server before it times out.
- Note: The Timeout setting will be used for both Smart View and Attestation workflows.
- If the employee must swipe or enter the employee badge immediately after selecting the Smart View soft key, select Prompt for Employee Badge.
- Select Biometric Verification if employees must verify their identification by using a finger scan identification device. This option is available if Prompt for Employee Badge is selected.
- To select a different display icon for the Smart View scroll through the drop-down list of icons in the Choose Image field.
- ClickTap Save to save your edits or Cancel to dispose of them.
- Make a copy of each default Smart View definition for each language that must be supported.
- Modify the copy to refer to the appropriate application instance and select the appropriate Locale Policy based on its target language.
Note: During device configuration, Universal Device Manager does not filter the list of choices for Smart View transactions based on the device’s language. All Smart View definitions are available to all devices. Ensure that you name the new Smart View definitions appropriately, using the intended target language in the name, so that it is easier to select the correct definition for each device.
- Create a New custom Smart View transaction in the Smart Views template.
- Use the appropriate URL for the video streaming location and the Smart View parameter settings:
- URL: http://<video server>:<port>/<path>/<video file>.mp4 (EX: http://<IP Address>:80/media/myvideo.mp4)
- You must set the URL Parameter using the format: &iconname=VideoPlayback&playmyvideo=true&filename=CustomSmartViews&
- If creating multiple streaming video Smart Views, repeat these steps for each video, specifying the appropriate URL for each video.
- Assign the Smart View to an existing Soft Key Settings template or create a new one.
- Assign the Soft Key Settings template to a Device Configuration Profile.
- Assign the Device Configuration Profile to a InTouch device or devices.
- Download the Configuration to the desired InTouch devices.
- View the streaming video content on the InTouch device by tapping the desired Video Streaming soft key in the InTouch device employee or manager mode home page.
The ability to stream the same video on multiple InTouch devices can be done by downloading above configuration to each of the InTouch devices.
Video streaming is supported when the videos are placed on an IIS Web server only.
If the video is replaced or updated on the Web server, make sure to reinitialize the device with device configuration.
The InTouch does not support streaming video for use as a screen saver.
The streamed video must meet the following requirements:
- Video File Format: mp4
- Video codec: MPEG-4
- Data Rate: <= 500 kbps
- Audio Sample Rate: <= 44100 (44.1 kHz or lower)
- Audio Quality: <= 56 kbps
- Size of the video: <= 20 MB
- Video Duration: <= 5 minutes
- Video Resolution: 800 X 480 or less, Preferred: 450 X 254
- Frame Rate: <= 24 FPS
- Audio Codec: AAC
- Audio channel: Mono (Stereo works but preferred is Mono)
Note: If the video does not meet the requirements stated, you may see the video pause during the execution or the audio and video may not be synchronized.
