Default Transactions
Use the Default Transactions template to select default transactions for home and non-home employees when they punch in from a local reader and when they punch in from a remote reader, It provides a finer degree of granularity for home employees, allowing you to specify a different default depending upon whether they are at the start, middle, or end of their shifts. You can select any non-configurable, configurable, or Smart View transaction as a default transaction.
Non-configurable transactions include:
Cancel Meal Deduction — Allows employees who work through a meal to add the worked time back into their hours totals. This feature applies only if meals are automatically deducted from employees’ hours totals.
Gate Entry — Enables employees or supervisors to gain access through a gate. If Gate Entry support is enabled in the Bells & Gates template, the following successful transactions open the gate:
- Transactions at a device that is configured to support gate entry
- Transactions at an attached badge reader for that device.
Punch — Enables employees to enter a punch that does not include additional transactions such as viewing a current schedule.
Review Punches — Allows employees to view punches that they entered at a device within the scan interval.
View Current Schedule — Shows the scheduled start and end times for a home employee’s current shift. Employees must have an In status for the device to report this schedule.
View Future Schedules — Allows home employees to view future scheduled start and end times that reside in the device’s memory. The number of schedules displayed is configurable and depends on the device and the host application. The function reports only individual schedules. It does not report generic schedules.
View Punch Status — Allows employees to view the status of the most recent punch. Information includes the punch type, the time and date of the punch, and the elapsed time since the punch.
The number of transactions that can be assigned as default transactions is limited. It depends on the configurable transactions that are set up in the Configurable Transactions template. A configurable transaction name consists of the configured transaction name followed by the original transaction type in parentheses. For example, a configured transaction could be listed as Intensive Care (Labor Transfer).
You must define transactions, such as Labor Transfer and Location Transfer, so that default values are specified. Disable the override capability and ensure that all data is provided automatically.
These transactions include the term “Smart View” in the transaction name.
Use the Default Transactions template to specify the default transactions for local and remote readers when employees swipe their badges or enter their badge IDs at a local or remote reader. You can configure different default transactions for local or remote readers and for home and non-home employees.
The Default Transactions building block has a single tab — Default Transactions. Edit the fields in this tab as described below. Required fields are marked by an asterisk (*).
When you are done with your edits:
- Ensure that the Name field is not blank. It should contain the name of a template that you are editing or the unique name of the template that you are creating.
- Select one of the guided Save changes to options. See Device and Profile view template save options for more information.)
- Click Tap Save to save your edits
To require that employees press a soft key to perform the transaction, select the Always require soft key press check-box.
- Select the Home Employee Default transaction generated by the device when a home employee swipes a badge or enters a badge ID.
- To have the system enter a punch before the transaction, select the Enter a Punch First check box.
The Enter a Punch First check box is disabled if you select one of the following transactions:
- Delayed Location Transfer
- Delayed Labor Transfer
- End Work Rule Transfer
- Labor Transfer
- Punch
- Start Work Rule Transfer
If you select Punch as the Home Employee Default transaction, you can also make the following default assignments:
Home Employee Shift Start — A home employee swipes a badge at a local device. The device interprets the transaction as an in-punch to start a shift.
Home Employee IN During Shift — A home employee swipes a badge at a local reader. The device interprets the transaction as a punch during a shift; for example, a return from a meal or break.
Home Employee Shift End — A home employee swipes a badge at a local reader. The device interprets the transaction as a punch to end a shift.
Note: Transactions that change the punch status of an employee to IN are not available to assign to the Home Employee Shift End default. These transactions include Location Transfer, LocationTransfer, and Start and End Work Rule.
Select the Non-Home Employee Default transaction that is generated when a non-home employee swipes a badge or enters a badge ID at the reader.
Only transactions that are available to non-home employees are listed.
Devices do not distinguish between the first and subsequent punches for a non-home employee. If you do not assign Punch as the non-home employee default, assign the Punch transaction to a soft key to allow non-home employees to punch in and out.
Remote readers provide limited access. Users can only enter their badge IDs and they have restricted access to the device display and keypad. For that reason
Note the following restrictions:
- You cannot configure transactions for remote readers that require the display - for example, View Current Schedules or Review Punches.
- If you assign a Location Transfer, Location Transfer, or Start/End Work Rule transaction as the default for remote reader home employees, employees are always punched in when they generate badge reads at the remote reader. That is, employees cannot punch out at the remote reader; they can use the local reader or a soft key to punch out.
- Users can only enter their badge IDs at remote readers; they cannot access the device display and keypad. Because of this, the transactions available do not include review transactions, such as View Current Schedules or Review Punches.
- Because users cannot enter date and time information, do not assign Delayed Location Transfers and Delayed Location Transfers to remote readers.
When defining transactions that require data other than the employee badge ID:
- Specify default values; for example, a default job or a default labor level.
- Disable Allow Override.
- Do not select Partial and Ad Hoc check boxes.
- Provide values for any optional items.
To add or modify remote reader transactions:
Select the Home Employee Default transaction generated when a home employee swipes a badge or enters a badge ID at a remote device.
If you assign a Labor Transfer, Location Transfer, or Start/End Activity transaction as the default for remote reader home employees, employees are always punched in when they generate badge reads at the remote reader. That is, employees cannot punch out at the remote reader; they can use the local reader or a soft key to punch out.
If you select Punch, you can also make the following default assignments:
Note: If you do not select Punch, employees must use the local reader, or press a soft key to perform a transaction:
Home Employee Shift Start — A home employee swipes a badge at a remote device. The device interprets the transaction as an in-punch to start a shift.
If you do not select Punch, this transaction cannot be assigned, and all transactions at the remote reader by home employees are the same—that is, the Home Employee Default.
Home Employee IN During Shift — A home employee swipes a badge at a remote reader. The device interprets the transaction as a punch during a shift; for example, a return from a meal or break.
If you do not select Punch, this transaction cannot be assigned, and all transactions at the remote reader by home employees are the same—that is, the Home Employee Default. In this case, home employees cannot punch out at the remote reader, but they can use the local reader or a soft key with the Punch transaction assigned to it.
Home Employee Shift End — A home employee swipes a badge at a remote reader. The device interprets the transaction as a punch to end a shift.
Only transactions that do not require data entry and do not affect the punch status of the employee are allowed. Transactions that affect punch status include Labor Transfer, Location Transfer, and Start/End Activity.
If you do not select Punch, this transaction cannot be assigned. Home employees must use the local reader or a soft key with the Punch transaction assigned to it for transactions—other than the remote reader Home Employee Default transaction.
If you select Gate Entry, a punch is used to open the gate and no out-punch is generated. The user must enter an out-punch at another device before using the remote reader.
Select the Non-Home Employee Default transaction generated when a non-home employee swipes a badge at a remote reader.
Devices do not distinguish between the first and subsequent punches for a non-home employee. If you do not assign Punch as the non-home employee default, assign the Punch transaction to a soft key to allow non-home employees to punch in and out.
