Manage charts

You can view employee performance, organizational issues, and other issues in a graphical representation by looking at a chart that represents the work in your organization.

Managers can generate charts directly from the Dataview or Home page that they have permission to access and personalize.

My Charts is the last tile category that is displayed in the Tiles library. You can create charts and delete the charts that you create in My Charts.

You can perform the following actions with charts.

You can interact with a chart on your Home Page in the following ways:

  • Select the title to view the entire Dataview.
  • Select the down arrow in the upper right corner to reveal actions that you can take on the chart including: Edit, Copy, Refresh, Hide, and Full Screen.
  • Select an area of the chart to filter the Dataview to show only your selection.
  • Select the left and right arrows at the bottom of the tile to scroll through the data in a chart that has too many data points to view on one page.

From the Home page:

  1. ClickTap at the bottom of the screen to open the Tile Library. Continue to step 3.

From a Dataview:

  1. ClickTap the word Charts below the Dataview.
  2. ClickTap Tile Library to open the Tile library.
  3. From the Tile library, scroll to My Charts and clicktap Create Chart .
  4. Select a Chart type:
    • Vertical Bar
    • Horizontal Bar
    • Line
    • Pie
  5. Select a Category, for example, Name, ID, or Location.
  6. Select a Metric, for example, Daily Hours or Wage Rate.
  7. For Employee and Business Structure Dataviews, you can use the Count and Unique Count options to chart String, ENUM, Boolean, Date, Time, and Datetime data column values.
    • Count includes each instance of the selected category even if it occurs multiple times for an employee.
    • Unique Count includes each employee once for the selected category.
  8. The Count and Unique Count metric options are always at the bottom of the selection list. When a dataview has one row per employee, Count and Unique Count return the same value.
  9. Select an operator for Values Calculation. The Values Calculation defaults to whatever value is set in the Dataview itself. So, if Avg aggregation is applied to the Accrued Vacation Hours column, Avg appears in this field. You can select another value.

    10. Note: Values Calculation is disabled when Count or Unique Count is selected for Metric.

  10. ClickTap On under Limit Data? to keep the view to a subset of values in which you are most interested. For example, you can view the top 5 values for the largest amount of vacation time. Use the following settings as delimiters:
    1. Range - Select the Top or Bottom values to view, for example, the top or bottom five values by hourly rate.
    2. Number of values - Select the number of values to view
    3. If you check Group remaining values as “Other”, all values outside the limit are consolidated and are plotted as one value, labeled “Other.”
  11. Set Display Options:
    1. To hide the display options, such as the chart title, set the switch to Off.
    2. To display the options, set the switch to On. The options are based on the context of the chart. The following options are a sample of what is available to display in the chart:
      • Chart title (defaults to the selected category and metric)
      • Category title
      • Metric title
      • Category labels
      • Data labels - (Pie chart only) Depending on the context of chart, you might select Percent (%), Value, or Both to see these labels in the chart.
      • Colors - Select the drop-down arrow to choose from one of four color themes.

If you have access to a Time Series Dataview, you can create charts to visualize the trends in your organization.

  1. From the Home page:

    1. ClickTap at the top right of the screen to open the Tile Library. Continue to step 3.
    • or

    From a Dataview:

    After you fill in the fields to create a Dataview, or when you edit a Dataview, scroll to the bottom of the page to the Charts section.

  2. ClickTap the word Charts below the Dataview.
  3. ClickTapAdd to create a new chart. The Create Chart panel opens.

  4. ClickTap a Chart Type:

    1. Select a Time Series chart.
    2. Select the chart format:
      • Vertical Bar
      • Line
  5. ClickTap each item under Select Data to select the data for the chart.
    1. Select a Time increment, for example, day, month, or year.
    2. Select a Metric, for example, Scheduled Hours.
    3. Click the plus sign under Metric to add up to five metrics to the chart.

    4. The Values Calculation defaults to whatever value is set in the Dataview itself. So, if Avg aggregation is applied to the Accrued Vacation Hours column, Avg appears in this field. You can select another value.

  6. ClickTapYes or No under Break? to chart the data by the Time Increment and a selected attribute, such as Employee Name or Worker Type.
    1. Select Break to select the attribute for the break.
    2. Select Chart style to select the chart style you want to view.
  7. Note: You cannot use the Break feature when charting multiple metrics.

  8. Set Display Options:

    1. The options are based on the context of the chart. The following options are a sample of what is available to display in the chart:

      • Chart title (defaults to the selected category and metric)

      • Category title

      • Metric title

      • Category labels

      • Data labels - (Pie chart only) Depending on the context of chart, you might select Percent (%), Value, or Both to see these labels in the chart.

      • Colors - Select the drop-down arrow to choose from one of four color themes.

  9. Assign the new Dataview with charts to a Home page. You can do this by adding a Dataview Profile to a new or existing Home page in Home Page Management.

  10. After the Dataview Profile has been assigned in Home Page Management, assign the chart to the Home page by selecting it from the Tile selection box. The chart name is provided with the name of the Dataview it is associated with in parenthesis.

Note: Both the Dataview and Home page profiles must be assigned to the employee's Display Profile.

  1. On the Home page or Dataview, clicktap the down arrow in the upper right corner of the chart that you want to edit.

    2. The drop-down menu contains actions that you can take on the Chart, including Edit, Copy, Refresh, and Hide.

  2. ClickTap Edit to edit the chart.
  3. Make changes to the available options.
  4. ClickTap Save to complete the action.

Copying a chart is a simple way to duplicate a chart and edit it, without altering the original chart.

  1. On the Home page or Dataview, select the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the chart you want to edit.
  2. The drop-down menu contains actions that you can take on the Chart, including Edit, Copy, Refresh, and Hide.
  3. ClickTap Copy to copy the chart.
  4. Make changes to the available options.
  5. ClickTap Save to complete the action and create another chart from the copied chart.

Select Refresh to update your view of the chart.

  1. On the Home page or Dataview, clicktap the down arrow in the upper right corner of the chart that you want to hide.
  2. ClickTap Hide to immediately hide the chart from your view.

Note: A manager cannot delete an administrator chart. However, a manager can show or hide it.

You can enlarge the size of charts to make them easier to read.

  1. On the Home page or Dataview, clicktap the down arrow in the upper right corner of the chart that you want to maximize.
  2. ClickTapFull Screen to maximize the chart.
  3. ClickTap the chart title to view the underlying Dataview. ClickTap a chart segment to see the Dataview filtered to that selection.
  4. ClickTapX to dismiss the chart.

From the Home page:

  1. ClickTap Tile Library at the top-right of the screen. Skip to step 3.

From a Dataview:

  1. ClickTap the word Charts below the Dataview.

  2. ClickTap Tile Library to open the Tile library.
  3. From the Tile library, scroll to My Charts.

  4. To show a chart, select it. The tiles containing a check mark are displayed in the home page.

  5. To hide a chart, select a chart with a check mark and it changes to a minus sign. The charts containing a minus sign are removed from the home page.
  6. ClickTap Apply.
  1. In the Tiles library > My Charts section, clicktap the chart that you want to delete. The check mark turns into a minus sign.
  2. ClickTap Delete .
  3. A dialog box opens to confirm that you want to delete the chart.
  4. Click Tap Yes to delete it.
  5. Click Tap OK in the Success dialog box.
  6. Click Tap the X to close the Tiles library.

Note: You can remove multiple charts by selecting all the charts you want to delete and clicking Delete .

ClickTap the title in the chart to see the entire underlying Dataview, or clicktap a chart segment to see the Dataview filtered to that selection. If you select a specific area, the resulting Dataview displays a message at the top of the table to alert you that the visible content is a subset of the original Dataview.

Note: Charts cannot be rendered from Dataviews that are over the 1000 employee limit.

When focus is on a chart element, screen readers will announce the chart type, chart title, x-axis, and y-axis.

Keyboard navigation for interacting with charts:

  • Press Tab to focus on the chart.

  • Press Tab again to move focus to the first data point.

  • Use the left and right arrow keys to navigate through data points of the same series.

  • Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate to data points of adjacent series.

  • Press Tab again to move focus to the first legend item (if a legend is included), and use the arrow keys to navigate through legend items. When the focus is on a legend item, press Space to hide or unhide the series corresponding to the legend item.
